Building a Better Future: Armada Hoffler’s 2022 Sustainability Report Highlights

Armada Hoffler’s annual Sustainability Report provides a concise overview of the company’s environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices. The report outlines measures taken to manage our sustainability efforts and address concerns that impact the environment. With Armada Hoffler’s vision and mission in mind, the company is committed to conducting business in a manner that produces the most favorable economic, social, and environmental outcomes for its shareholders, employees, and communities alike.

The 2022 Sustainability Report provides a synopsis of our internal and external operations as they pertain to three pillars: People, Planet, and Community. Here are some of the highlights from the report:

People

Armada Hoffler recognizes that the success of our business is driven by our employees. Therefore, we have committed to developing a workplace environment that allows each individual the space to grow and move toward their career goals.

To achieve this, we invest in employee education and skill development. We offer incentives such as tuition reimbursement and training opportunities to encourage employees to acquire new skills. We also offer more than 30 benefits, incentives, and rewards to all employees who work at least 25 hours per week. These benefits include medical coverage, market-competitive wages, and a hybrid work schedule.

Armada Hoffler also prioritizes employee health and safety by recording any and all occupational injuries and illnesses in an incident reporting management system. We encourage our employees to report any work-related injuries, investigate these reports, and implement necessary protocols to eliminate their causes. Each Armada Hoffler employee is required to attend mandatory safety training based on their company role, which includes safety ordinances to follow on and off the job.

Planet

Minimizing our environmental impact is at the core of Armada Hoffler’s organizational operations. We prioritize environmentally responsible behavior and reducing our carbon footprint on the planet. We are constantly searching for ways to minimize our energy and natural-resource consumption and waste. This involves the incorporation of energy-efficient technology and appliances in our development projects, featuring wellness-focused amenities, and adapting efficient design management.

In terms of energy efficiency, 55% of Armada Hoffler’s multifamily portfolio features electric vehicle (EV) charging stations. We have committed to installing EV charging stations within all of our newly developed properties and will continually assess placement within existing properties.

We are also focused on water conservation, replacing old and less efficient fixtures within our portfolio and concentrating efforts on the biggest properties first to save as much energy as possible. We are working towards having water-saving fixtures in all offices and shops owned or managed by Armada Hoffler by 2030.

Community

Our company believes in corporate social responsibility, which includes supporting the communities where we operate. We want to improve these areas so that people can have better work, living, and recreational environments. To achieve this goal, we work with local non-profits, schools, and community organizations by providing financial and other types of support.

We value the opinions of our tenants and residents, so we schedule regular meetings with them and conduct satisfaction surveys. This helps us to provide the best possible experience for everyone.

We also strive to create opportunities for the communities where we develop new projects. These developments create new job opportunities and provide space for small businesses to grow and thrive.
