Virginia Beach will soon have its second Trader Joe’s location.

The popular grocery store chain, known for its viral and seasonal items, has officially announced plans to open a new store at Town Center on Friday, December 19. The store will be located at 220 Constitution Drive in the Columbus Village Shopping Plaza, in the former Bed Bath & Beyond space.

Moments before the doors open at 9 a.m., Trader Joe’s will host a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony at 8:55 a.m. Store Captain Akil Dove and crew members will be on hand to welcome customers to the new neighborhood location.

The nearly 10,000-square-foot store sits just off Virginia Beach Boulevard and Constitution Drive and will operate daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

13News Now previously reported on the possibility of Trader Joe’s coming to Town Center earlier this year after the company submitted a beer and wine license application for the address. The December opening confirms months of speculation about which grocer would move into Columbus Village.

Armada Hoffler announced in January that a 14,000-square-foot grocery store and a 19,000-square-foot national sporting goods retailer would backfill most of the space left vacant after Bed Bath & Beyond went out of business in 2023. Trader Joe’s will occupy nearly all of the former retailer’s footprint. As part of its opening, Trader Joe’s said it hired more than 50 new crew members from the local community, with additional employees transferring from other stores. Through the company’s Neighborhood Shares Program, the Virginia Beach store will also donate 100% of unsold but edible products to local nonprofit organizations seven days a week.

The Town Center location will be the second Trader Joe’s in Virginia Beach and the fourth in the region. The company also operates stores in Newport News and Williamsburg.
